HC Deb 13 November 1947 vol 444 cc96-7W
82. Mr. Grimston

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if, having regard to the fact that in some parts of the sterling area there is no petrol rationing, and in others the scale is higher than in the United Kingdom, any approach was made to other Governments in the area, with a view to seeing if some overall reduction in petrol consumption could be effected in order that the complete abolition of the basic petrol ration in the United Kingdom alone might be avoided.

Mr. Gaitskell

Commonwealth Governments within the sterling area were asked to secure a reduction of petrol consumption and although the action taken could not be uniform owing to differing circumstances, cuts have already been announced by a number of them.
