HC Deb 13 November 1947 vol 444 c92W
22. Mr. Gammans

asked the President of the Board of Trade for what reason the import of raw silk from Japan has been permitted to only one British firm; what is the name of that firm; and why other British companies are not permitted to engage in this trade.

Mr. H. Wilson

Japanese silk is imported by the Government on behalf of the silk industry generally and not by private firms. The questions asked by the hon. Member do not therefore arise.
