HC Deb 13 November 1947 vol 444 cc95-6W
35. Sir G. Fox

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power why investigating officers of his Department visited garages North of Inverness in August in a 16 h. p. Daimler; and if he will give an undertaking that no car of more than 7 h. p. will be used by investigating officers in future.

Mr. Gaitskell

I am unable to trace that any officer of my Department was using a 16 h. p. Daimler car North of Inverness last August. Inquiries were carried out by an officer in a 10 h. p. car, and if the hon. Member has more precise information about the incident to which he refers, I should be willing to look into it. Generally speaking, the cars officially approved for use by my Department in Scotland do not exceed 12 h. p. but I am unable to give an undertaking that no cars of more than 7 h. p. will be used, having regard to the hilly nature of the country.
