Mr. Vaneasked the Minister of Health whether there has been any increase in the rents charged to the occupiers of the houses requisitioned in Kendal for workers in the Standard Motor Company's wartime factory; and whether any such increase has been passed on to the owners; what deductions from the gross rent paid are retained for repairs; and whether he is satisfied that all such deductions have been expended on the maintenance of the respective properties.
67W
§ Mr. BevanThere has been no increase in the charges made to the occupiers of these houses. The compensation payable to the owners does not vary according to the charges made to the occupiers, but is determined as provided by the Compensation (Defence) Act, 1939, as amended by the Requisitioned Land and War Workers Act, 1945. The cost of maintenance of these properties, and the compensation payable, are, in so far as they are not met by the charges made, borne by Exchequer funds.
