HC Deb 10 November 1947 vol 444 c34W
Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state in regard to Scotland as a whole, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Fife county and the burghs of Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Leven and St. Andrews, respectively, the number of new permanent houses licensed or approved by his Department since August, 1945; and what has been the effect in the case of each of these areas of the Government's subsequent curtailment of housing operations.

Mr. Woodburn

The following table gives the information asked for in the first part of the Question. As regards the latter part, I am sending the hon. Member a copy of a circular which I recently issued to all local authorities in Scotland, the broad effect of which is that available effort and materials should be concentrated in a balanced way upon completing a larger number of houses for occupation rather than dissipated by commencing the building of more houses than there are materials to complete.
