HC Deb 10 November 1947 vol 444 c9W
71. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Transport why the Grimsby fish train must be loaded by 3.30 p.m. since it does not leave the sidings until 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.; and how many thousands of tons of fish have been wasted during the past four months owing to inadequate transport facilities.

Mr. Callaghan

Fish for London is normally accepted up to 4 p.m.; when landings are heavy, the hour is extended to 4.45 p.m. Time has to be allowed after acceptance to complete loading. As far as I know, there has been no substantial loss from transport causes, but I should be glad to receive any information on the subject which the hon. Member may have in his possession.
