HC Deb 10 November 1947 vol 444 c32W
Sir W. Smiles

asked the Secretary of State for Air when the claim for compensation for Ballybuttle Dam, Millisle, will be paid, as this dam was blown up by his Department in 1943; and in view of the many letters written and promises made during the past four years, why no compensation has been paid yet.

Mr. de Freitas

Annual compensation was agreed in 1945 for the Ballybuttle Dam and has since been paid with effect from 21st November, 1943. A final settlement is dependent on a land reclamation scheme now being considered by the Northern Ireland Government, under which the dam wall would not be restored. We shall continue to pay annual compensation until the future of the dam is settled.
