§ 87. Sir R. Glynasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether in view of the great increase of the work being dealt with by magistrates in all parts of the country, he will consider what steps can be taken to enable solicitors to be engaged in presenting cases on behalf of the police.
§ Mr. EdeI recognise that in the great volume of cases coming before magistrates' courts there is a considerable number in which it is desirable that the police should be legally represented, and particulars of police prosecutions received from all police forces in England and Wales show that over the last few years there has in fact been a general increase in the percentage of cases where legal representation is employed. The question whether any further steps can be taken to secure that the police are legally represented in appropriate cases is receiving consideration.
