HC Deb 04 November 1947 vol 443 cc198-200W
Mr. F. Noel-Baker

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning whether he has considered a request from the borough council of Brentford and Chiswick for his observations with regard to plans for the preservation of Chiswick Eyot as a bird sanctuary; when he replied; and whether his reply was favourable.

Mr. Silkin

The borough council informed me that they had had under consideration the condition of Chiswick Eyot with special reference to its preservation as a bird sanctuary and asked for my observations on the question of its per- manent protection by structural improvements at an estimated cost of £20,000. I was of opinion that in present circumstances there was not sufficient justification for such expenditure and so informed the borough council on 6th October.
