HC Deb 04 November 1947 vol 443 c185W
84. Mr. Nield

asked the Minister of Labour what is the average period of time which elapses between the date upon which young men are due to be called up for service in His Majesty's Forces and the date upon which they are in fact called up, with separate details for the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force.

Mr. Isaacs

Unless granted deferment or postponement, a young man called up to any one of the Services may expect to join within six to eight weeks of his 18th birthday. The period varies according to the number of older men in the field of call-up at the time the young man becomes available and the trade or branch of service concerned.
