HC Deb 04 November 1947 vol 443 cc180-1W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the President of the Board of Trade, in view of the fact that the American film industry has suspended shipment of films to Great Britain because of the 300 per cent. ad valorem duty, what steps are being taken to secure an alternative source of supply of films to keep British cinemas open.

Mr. Belcher

The substantial alternative source of films suitable to replace American films withheld from the British market is our own studios, and we are in touch with British film producers on the question of making the best and fullest use of the facilities at their disposal.
