114. Mr. E. P. Smithasked the Minister of Works why Tiffenden Farm House was selected as a Metropolitan Police hostel; what a Metropolitan Police hostel is; and what police activities are pursued there.
§ Mr. KeyTiffenden Farm House is occupied as a hostel for civilian staff of the Police Regional Wireless Station, Cranbrook. This is an essential service. No other suitable accommodation for the wireless staff was available.
Mr. E. P. Smithasked the Minister of Works whether he is aware that as a result of his occupation of Tiffenden Farm House, High Halden, Kent, the farmer of the land, which consists of 257 acres all under cultivation, has no home; that, in consequence, the farming of the land may have to be abandoned; and what he proposes to do about it.
§ Mr. KeyI understand that the present owner bought the property whilst it was166W requisitioned. I am aware of his difficulties and I have given instructions that further efforts must be made to find alternative premises.
