Robertsasked the Minister of Works the amounts of solid fuel, gas and electricity used by the following Departments for the years ending 30th June, 1939, 30th June, 1945 and 30th June, 1947, respectively:—Admiralty, Agriculture, Air, Civil Aviation, Education, Food, Fuel and Power, Health, Home, Labour, Supply. Trade, Transport, Treasury and War.
§ Mr. KeyThe records for 1939 are no longer available and a very great amount of clerical labour would be involved in extracting the specific information asked for in respect of 1945 and 1947. Consumption of fuel is watched building by building. For the last winter quarter for which records are available, namely, that ending March, 1947, the figures of fuel consumption for all Government offices throughout the country for which this Ministry was responsible show a saving in terms of solid fuel over the corresponding quarter of 1946 of 15.75 Per cent. made up as follows:—solid fuel 15.3 per cent., electricity 19.3 per cent., gas 8.6 per cent.
