§ Mr. Haleasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs for what reason permission is denied to British citizens to visit and inspect properties in Germany belonging to them, which were confiscated by the Nazis; and what steps are being taken to restore the ownership of such properties to their rightful owners.
§ Mr. MayhewBefore permission to visit can be granted in such cases, it is necessary to determine whether the applicant has, in fact, a valid claim to the property he states belongs to him. The necessary restitution law is still under quadripartite discussion and machinery for examining claims and determining their validity has not yet been set up. Its establishment is, however, now under urgent consideration.
