HC Deb 03 November 1947 vol 443 cc168-9W
118 and 119. Mr. Edelman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he will give an estimate of the probable loss under the variant of the Civil Supplies Agreement of 1941, proposed by the Soviet Minister of Foreign Trade during the recent trade talks in Moscow;

(2) if he will give an estimate of the probable loss under the variant of the Civil Supplies Agreement of 1941, proposed by the Secretary for Overseas Trade during the recent trade talks in Moscow.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

The variants proposed by the Soviet Minister of Foreign Trade and by the Secretary for Overseas Trade would mean losses on capital repayment of £34 and £26 millions respectively, during the next six years, to be recouped over the following 10 years. Both variants entailed a final loss of interest of about £4 millions.
