§ Mr. Lawasked the Minister of Health if he is aware of the exorbitant rents and premiums being charged for houses and flats in the London area which do not come within the Rent Restrictions Act; and if he will now take steps to deal with it.
§ Mr. BevanNo special representations have been made to me on this matter recently. Legislation, of which there is no early prospect, would be required to amend the existing law, and I should point out that the Ridley Committee, who examined the question of rent control very fully, recommend in their report, published in 1945 (Cmd. 6621), that the existing limits of rateable value within which the Acts apply should remain unchanged.
