§ Mr. Hardyasked the Under-Secretary of State for Burma whether he is now in a position to make a statement on the work of the Frontier Areas Committee of Enquiry.
Mr. AHenderson: His Majesty's Government and the Government of Burma are much indebted to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for South Croydon (Mr. Rees-Williams) for his work as chairman of this committee. The report of the committee, which has already been accepted by the Government of Burma, has now been received and studied by His Majesty's Government, who have signified their approval of the committee's recommendations for the association of the Frontier peoples with the working out of the new constitution of Burma, subject to such elaboration as may be found necessary to give full elect to certain specific recommendations for protecting the position of the Frontier peoples in the Constituent Assembly in regard to matters of direct interest to them. Arrangements are being made for the publication of the Report as a White Paper shortly after the Whitsun Recess.
