§ 40. Sir J. Barlowasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that biscuits, cordials, jams, marmalade, chocolate, confectionery, poultry food, boots and shoes and other clothing, all of which are in short supply in the United Kingdom, are being exported to East Africa in substantial quantities where, in many cases, alternatives could be produced locally; and if he will take steps 52W to exclude such goods which are more urgently needed in this country.
Mr. Creech JonesImports of the goods mentioned are permitted by Colonial Governments as part of the general policy of promoting exports from the United Kingdom and it rests with the Departments responsible for them in this country to determine what proportion of our supplies can be exported.
