§ 97. Mr. Skeffingtonasked the Minister of Town and Country Planning whether 39W he is aware that there is a proposal to build an office block on the sites of the houses which lay between Old Palace Yard and the wall leading up to the Jewel Tower; and whether, as this action would spoil the view of Westminster Abbey from that side, he will forbid the proposition.
§ Mr. F. MarshallI assume that my hon. Friend refers to a site in Abingdon Street upon which it is proposed to erect offices for the use of Members and officials of the two Houses of Parliament to supplement the inadequate accommodation within the precincts of the Palace of Westminster. I am aware of the proposal and am satisfied that the erection of a suitably designed building on this site for the purpose intended would be in the public interest.
