§ Colonel Ponsonbyasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the ex-German liner now known as the "Empire Doone" has been lying off Southend for approximately a year; and when this vessel is likely to be available for service either as a passenger liner or for the conveyance of the large number of persons awaiting transportation to Australia under the Commonwealth Government's immigration scheme.
§ Mr. BarnesThe "Empire Doone" is fitted as a troopship and will form part of the trooping fleet. Before she can proceed to sea, however, her propelling machinery must be replaced. Shortages of supplies and repair facilities have delayed the commencement of this work, but every effort is being made to put it in hand as soon as possible.
