Mr. Philips Priceasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will make a statement setting out the present approximate expenditure of the Government directly and indirectly on scientific research and development work in this country, including medical, agricultural, industrial and defence research.
§ Mr. Glenvil HallThe estimates for 1947–48 provide for expenditure on research of all kinds of about £68,000,000. In addition, a substantial part of the grant of nearly £12,000,000 to universities is spent on research.
