§ 115. Mr. Zilliacusasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what steps he proposes to take to give effect to the Government's policy of socialising industry in Germany, in view of the announcement by Lieutenant-General Lucius D. Clay, American deputy military governor for Germany, that he would not allow Dr. Agartz, the social democratic chairman of the German bi-zonal economic committee, to introduce measures for socialising industry in the U.S. and British zones.
§ Mr. J. HyndI have seen a report in the Press attributing a statement to General Clay to the effect that Dr. Agartz would not be allowed to use his newly acquired post as chairman of the German208W Bi-zonal Committee to introduce socialisation of industry in the American and British Zones. Socialisation of industry is no part of the fusion arrangements and so is no concern of the German bi-zonal economic committee. I can, therefore, see no objection to the statement as reported. It has no bearing on the policy of socialising industry in the British zone, which is a matter for the zone commander acting under the instructions of His Majesty's Government.
