HC Deb 12 March 1947 vol 434 c207W
111. Mr. Molson

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what steps have been taken to secure the release of the German civilians removed by the Russians from a British military train; and how the Russians seek to justify their action.

Mr. J. Hynd

I presume that the hon. Member is referring to an incident which occurred on 26th February, when 27 Germans who were travelling in the Berlin—Bielefeld train were stopped at the interzonal border. They were not removed from the train, but were returned to Berlin in the same coach. In reply to a strong protest the Russian authorities have expressed their concern at the incident, and have stated that it was due to a misunderstanding. They have given an assurance that measures have been taken to avoid a repetition.
