HC Deb 11 March 1947 vol 434 c151W
73 Mr. Osborne

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will reconsider his decision to import 520,000 dollars worth of shoes and instead use the money for the importation from the U.S.A. of knives, patterns, sewing machines, needles and other items of equipment, and sc enable the British manufacturer to compete on more equal terms with U.S. industries.

Mr. Belcher

No, Sir. So far as I am aware, no application to import shoe making machinery or equipment from the U.S.A. has been refused on exchange grounds.
