§ 16 Mr. Beswickasked the Minister of Labour if he will consider arrangements for the deferment of apprentices, learners or pupils in essential food distributive trades to enable them to complete their training before call up.
§ Mr. IsaacsApprentices, learners, and others in a position similar to apprentices in these trades are eligible for deferment of call up provided they can show that a genuine and satisfactory apprenticeship exists, which was begun at the age customary for the occupation, and that 149W a period of deferment is necessary to complete their training.

§ Mr. IsaacsAny apprentice born in 1929 or later who satisfies the district manpower board that a genuine and satisfactory apprenticeship exists, which was begun at the age customary for his occupation, and that a period of deferment is necessary to complete his training, is at liberty to choose whether he will be called up on reaching the age of 18 or on completion of his apprenticeship.
