HC Deb 11 March 1947 vol 434 cc172-3W
Sir I. Fraser

asked the Minister of Pensions what travelling subsistence, loss of work and other allowances are paid to ex- Servicemen attending boards, appeal tribunals, or for treatment.

Mr. Wilfred Paling

Ex-Servicemen attending medical boards or for treatment are paid necessary travelling expenses. In addition, where attendance at medical boards or for out-patient treatment involves absence from home for more than five hours, subsistence allowance is payable at rates varying from 2s. for an absence of five hours to 9s. 6d. where overnight absence is necessary.

Compensation for loss of earnings in consequence of attendance at medical boards or for limb fitting is paid at a rate not exceeding 21s. for any one day. Where, exceptionally, attendance is necessary on more than one day in the same week the total compensation is subject to a maximum of 30s. Similar rates are paid in treatment cases subject to the limitation that the amount payable, together with pension in issue, does not exceed the appropriate weekly treatment allowance. Allowances for men attending at appeal tribunals are paid by the pensions appeal office.
