§ Mr. WestwoodAmong the suggestions being considered by the sub-committee, of the Technical Education Committee of the Fishing Industry in its review of the scheme for training herring and inshore fishermen is one that the scheme should include an elementary course on the economics of the industry with particular reference to Co-operative societies. The Sea Fish Industry Act, 1938, contemplated the setting up of co-operative schemes for inshore fishermen, and fishermen's co-operatives are operating successfully in this and other countries. I consider it proper that the sub-committee should consider whether the training scheme should make provision for informing fishermen of the benefits to be derived from co-operation.
