HC Deb 05 March 1947 vol 434 cc71-2W
86. Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General the number of temporary Post Office employees who have had their employment terminated since 1st July, 1946, and the number of new staff taken on during the same period.

Mr. Burke

During the period from 1st July, 1946, to 1st January, 1947, the latest date for which figures are available, there was a net decrease of 1,570 in the temporary staff while the total staff of the Post Office (permanent and temporary) increased by 1,683. On available information I am unable to say how[...]y temporary staff resigned, were dis[...]ged or were appointed to the per[...]tent staff during this period, or how many new recruits were taken on, and the information could not be collected without an inordinate amount of work.
