§ Mr. GaitskellThe total subsidy paid on gas oil used for making water gas in the 12 months ended 31st October, 1946, was £2¾ million representing an average54W payment of eightpence (8d.) per gallon. It is estimated that in the 12 months ended 31st October, 1947, the increased consumption of gas oil for gas production will cost an extra 4.2 million.
