HL Deb 12 June 1947 vol 148 c732WA
THE EARL OF AIRLIE

asked His Majesty's Government, whether they will state what commodities other than oatmeal have had their subsidy withdrawn, and whether they are aware that in withdrawing this subsidy they have nearly doubled the price of what is one of the staple diets of the Scottish people.

LORD HENDERSON

In recent months subsidies have been reduced or withdrawn from the following foodstuffs:—canned fish, flour for manufacture and industrial uses, dried fruit, dried eggs, condensed milk, dried milk powder, lard, compound cooking fats, margarine for trade users, sugar for manufacture, potatoes. The increase in the retail price of oatmeal was from 3½d. to 5¼d. per lb.; this represents an advance of 50 per cent. on the old price.

House adjourned at four minutes past eleven o'clock.
