asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what quantity of coal has been imported into Scotland during the last year for which figures are available.

Mr. Shinwell

During the twelve months ended June, 1947, no coal has been imported into Scotland.

13. Sir W. Darling

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what was the output of coal in Scotland for the last complete year; how much of the coal produced was consumed in Scotland; and what quantities were exported abroad or sent to England and Wales.

Mr. Shinwell

The output of coal (deep-mined and opencast) in Scotland during the year 1946 was 23.25 million tons. Inland consumption in Scotland during the same period amounted to 20.82 million tons. Shipments abroad and to Northern Ireland, and foreign and coastwise bunkers from Scotland were 2.53 million tons. The quantity sent to England and Wales was 0.61 million tons.
