§ 79. Mr. G. Williamsasked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the proposal of the Central Wages Board that agricultural and forestry wages should be increased; and whether he will initiate an immediate review of the prices of homegrown timber.
§ Mr. BelcherI am aware of the proposal that agricultural and forestry wages should be increased. Standing timber prices were increased by 25 per cent. in January of this year. The increase was designed to provide, among other things, for increased costs of maintenance and replanting and was calculated on sufficiently broad lines to take care of an increase in forestry wages such as at present proposed.
