§ Mr. SteeleThe number of full-time staff in my Department at 30th June, 1947 was 14,017. There were also 643 ix part-time staff. The general composition of the staff by grades and salaries is shown in the Civil Estimates for the year ending 31st March, 1948, Class V, Section 6, a copy of which is available in the Library. It is estimated that the additional staff needed for the inauguration of the National Insurance schemes next year will be of the order of 17,000. The majority of these will it is expected be transferred from approved societies where they are now doing similar work.
