HC Deb 10 July 1947 vol 439 c234W
70. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that at Kineton, Warwickshire, on 25th June, a fine of £5 was imposed on a circus proprietor for causing unnecessary suffering to a lioness by forcing it to travel in a cage so small that the animal could not turn around; and whether he will consider depriving the convicted person of his licence and taking steps to ensure that such forms of cruelty cannot take place in this country in the future.

Mr. Ede

I have no power to cancel a registration under the Performing Animals (Regulation) Act, 1925.
