HC Deb 02 July 1947 vol 439 c165W
97. Mr. Gibson

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the practice of some shopkeepers and stallholders of marking their goods for sale at so much per halt pound while giving the customers the impression that the cost per pound weight is intended; and whether, in view of the wide practice of showing the price in this misleading way and in order to protect the shoppers, he will take steps to insist on all prices being clearly marked and easily read

Mr. Belcher

The Sale of Food (Weights and Measures) Act, 1926, already makes it an offence to commit any act calculated to mislead a prospective purchaser as to the weight or measure of any article of food sold or offered for sale The enforcement of the Act is in the hands of the local Inspectors of Weights and Measures, to whom cases of alleged infringement should be reported
