HC Deb 02 July 1947 vol 439 c155W
70. Brigadier Low

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many members of the Secretary of State's services in India between 32 and 45 years of age have been approved for service in his Department by his interviewing representative; and of these how many have accepted the terms and conditions of service offered; and what are the terms and conditions of service in his Department applicable to such men.

Mr. McNeil

Members of the Secretary of State's services in India and Burma between 32 and 45 years of age who have applied for transfer to the Foreign Service are brought home as and when available for interview by a Civil Service Commission Board. Of those seen by the Board up to 28th June, 11 have been recommended for the Foreign Service. Of these four have accepted the offer made to them, two have withdrawn and the rest have not yet replied. The financial terms offered vary in accordance with their age and qualifications. Once admitted to the Foreign Service they are covered by the regulations for that Service.
