§ 3. Sir G. Foxasked the Minister of Fuel and Power when the underground strategic oil pipe in Great Britain ceased to be 239W used; what is to happen to the pipe; and what is the amount of local rates saved annually by its issue.
§ Mr. ShinwellThe bulk of the oil pipeline system ceased to be used at various dates mainly during the latter part of 1945, but parts of the system are still in use. Arrangements are being made to put those parts of the system not at present being used on to a care and maintenance basis. The annual saving in local rates cannot be calculated exactly, but on the basis of the rates paid in the last period for which figures are available the annual saving would be about £30,000.
