Lewisasked the President of the Board of Trade the tonnage and cost of the reinforcing carbon black suitable for tyre manufacture, imported from the U.S.A. or from other dollar areas during the year ended 31st December, 1946; and the tonnage and value of the same commodity purchased from other sources in the same period.
§ Sir S. Cripps29,500 tons of carbon black for the rubber industry were imported from the U.S.A. and Canada during 1946 at an approximate f.a.s. cost of 5¼ million U.S. dollars. During the same period 250 tons were imported from Germany at an estimated cost of £11,500.
