§ 133. Mr. Elwyn Jonesasked the Minister of Transport whether he will ensure that no canals are abandoned before full enquiry into the position of canals by the proposed Transport Commission.
§ Mr. BarnesI have now before me two applications for authority to abandon lengths of canal under the provisions of Section 45 of the Railway and Canal Traffic Act, 1888. While I could not delay my decision on these and any other applications made in the near future, I shall certainly have regard to the importance of the canals concerned in relation to the system of public inland transport contemplated in the Transport Bill.
