§ 41. Captain Crowderasked the Minister of Fuel and Power what steps he is taking to ensure the utmost economy in the use of street lighting in the present fuel shortage.
§ Mr. ShinwellStreet lighting is at present being carried out with an overall saving of 50 per cent. or more on prewar fuel consumption. This reduction has been secured by the voluntary cooperation of lighting authorities as a whole, and I feel sure that I can rely upon their continued and, I hope, intensified assistance. I am considering whether any further economies are practicable.
