HC Deb 27 February 1947 vol 433 cc312-3W
12. Mr. F. Anderson

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps have been taken to clear the slag heaps at Cleator Moor, which is situated in the development area of West Cumberland, seeing there are several hundred men unemployed who have not worked for some considerable time; by whom the application was made; and whether any sanction has been given for the work to proceed.

Sir S. Cripps

No application has been made to the Board of Trade in respect of the clearance of slag heaps at Cleator Moor. I am, however, acquiring and propose to clear the site of an old iron works of about 37 acres in this locality for the purposes of industrial development and to improve the amenities of the neighbourhood.
