HC Deb 27 February 1947 vol 433 c317W
85. Major Bramall

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power why greyhound racing alone of all forms of entertainment has been banned as a meaure of fuel saving.

Mr. Shinwell

This temporary ban was imposed not only as a direct fuel-saving measure, but also because of the undesirability, during the acute electricity crisis, of having such large scale outdoor gatherings after dark, with the brilliant lighting involved.
