HC Deb 27 February 1947 vol 433 cc320-1W
43. Lieut.-Colonel Bromley-Davenport

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that the Alderley and Wilmslow Electricity Board are unable to connect the electricity supply to the house of Mr. Cropper, a dentist practising at Woodbank, Alderley Edge; and whether, in view of the importance to public health of allowing doctors and dentists to practise, he will cause special steps to be taken to provide for their electricity supply henceforth.

Mr. Shinwell

I understand that Mr. Cropper's house is served by an electricity main, but that as is the case with many other residential circuits the supply is disconnected during the restricted hours. Clearly, no special exception can be made in this case.

76. Mr. Lipson

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he will make any concession from the ban on the use of electric power for five hours daily to persons living in flats where there is no central heating, no fireplaces and no gas, and who are entirely dependent on electricity.

Mr. Shinwell

As stated by my right hon. Friend, the President of the Board of Trade yesterday, the Government are considering the question of a domestic fuel rationing scheme to take the place of the present restrictions. In the meantime I must ask that domestic consumers of the class referred to will do their best to conform to the restrictions.

91. Captain Crowder

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will make a statement regarding the supply of electricity to domestic consumers; and if he is able to announce any reduction in the present hours of restriction.

Mr. Shinwell

I am not at present able to add anything to the statement made yesterday by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade that the Government are considering a domestic fuel rationing scheme to take the place of the present restrictions.
