HC Deb 27 February 1947 vol 433 cc327-8W
112. Viscount Hinchingbrooke

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons have come to this country from Germany under the Distressed Relations Scheme since the simplified procedure was announced on 17th October; and whether he is satisfied that there is no undue delay in facilitating passages.

Mr. Ede

The figures do not show from what countries persons arriving here under the Distressed Relatives Scheme have come, but the great majority of them come from Germany. Between r8th November, which is the date for which I previously gave a figure to the House, and i6th February about 700 persons have arrived under this Scheme. I have no reason to think that there is avoidable delay in the grant of visas, but the provision of passages depends on the available transport, which is not my responsibility.
