asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has considered a letter from the Town Clerk of Salford protesting, on behalf of the Salford City Council, against the Purchase Tax on dustbins; and if he will take that protest into consideration when considering his new Budget proposals.

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1), whether he will consider, when framing his next Budget, abolishing the i6 per cent. Purchase Tax on all drugs used for the treatment of disease;

(2) whether he will consider, when framing his next Budget, abolishing the 33⅓ per cent. Purchase Tax on toothpaste and other preparations used in the prevention of disease.
