HC Deb 24 February 1947 vol 433 cc234-5W
Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Supply if there is still a shortage of iron and steel to supply the nation's need for home and export; and if he will arrange with the Service Ministers to have the various dumps of metal such as barbed wire, tubular scaffolding and old iron still existing about the country, collected by members of the Defence Services.

Mr. Wilmot

The surplus material held by the Service Departments is being made available as rapidly as possible to help to meet the shortage if iron and steel. It is chiefly of value as scrap, of which there is not at present a shortage, and emergency methods of collection are not considered necessary.
