§ Mr. Bossom105, 106 and 107. asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what arrangements are being made in the police service for selecting men possessing the qualifications of potential leadership for special training as soon as such qualifications have been exhibited;
(2) why, in the Government's plan for the future Police College, it is the intention to depart from the principles set out in the White Paper which was laid before the House in 1931;
(3) whether, in future, entrants to the police service will be offered opportunities of rising, at an early age, to positions of responsibility similar to those offered to men joining the Armed Forces of the Crown.
§ Mr. EdeI will answer these Questions together, since they all relate to the arrangements to be made for the higher training of police officers in England and Wales. An expert committee has submitted recommendations in this matter, on which I have been consulting representatives of police authorities and the 213W various ranks of the police service. I am not yet in a position to make any statement, but I hope to he able to do so shortly.
