HC Deb 20 February 1947 vol 433 cc216-7W
115. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in how many remand homes and approved schools are firearms kept; why are they so kept; and what precautions are taken to prevent their falling into the hands of the juvenile offenders detained in these homes and schools.

Mr. Ede

So far as I am aware, there are no remand homes in which firearms are kept. In some 21 approved schools a unit of the Army Cadet Force has been formed, and rifles and other firearms are provided for the training of the boys who belong to the unit. I understand that, when not in use, all arms are locked up in the school armoury.
