HC Deb 20 February 1947 vol 433 c222W
129. Mr. Swingler

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps have been taken by his Department to recruit new workers for agriculture in the county of Stafford.

Mr. T. Williams

In addition to the normal arrangements for placing workers in agriculture through the machinery of the employment exchanges, the Ministry of Labour and my Department are cooperating in a special scheme to recruit unemployed persons in the development areas and other areas of appreciable unemployment for agricultural work. Useful progress has been made in the Potteries area of Staffordshire, and I hope that it will be possible to extend the scheme to the south of the county.
