HC Deb 17 February 1947 vol 433 cc115-6W
26. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Food if he is satisfied, during the condition of emergency, with the arrangements for the supply of vegetables and particularly of potatoes; and what steps he is taking to prevent housewives purchasing more vegetables than are immediately necessary.

Mr. Strachey

I am satisfied that everything possible is being done to distribute fairly such supplies of potatoes and other vegetables as can be lifted. A system of rationing for vegetables is not practicable and I think that during the present emergency any restriction on the purchases by the public may be left to the good sense of retailers.
